Code of Conduct within Judoclub Brunssum

The sports federations in the Netherlands take sexual harassment seriously.

NOCNSF has drawn up codes of conduct for sports supervisors. These rules
have been endorsed by all national sports federations and are also strictly adhered to by
Judoclub Brunssum. The rules were created to
reduce the risks of unwanted behavior in the pupil-trainer relationship and serve as a touchstone for the behavior of supervisors
and athletes in concrete situations. Below you will find the eleven
codes of conduct that are endorsed by all national
sports organizations affiliated with NOC
NSF and that are carefully observed by Judoclub
Brunssum.

  • The supervisor must ensure an environment and atmosphere in which the athlete feels safe.
  • The supervisor refrains from treating the athlete in a
way that undermines the athlete's dignity, and from intruding further into the
private life of the athlete than is necessary for the
jointly set goal. - The supervisor refrains from any form of (abuse of) power or sexual harassment towards the athlete.
  • Sexual acts and sexual relationships between the supervisor and the
young athlete under sixteen years of age are under no circumstances permitted and
    are considered sexual abuse.
  • The supervisor may not touch the athlete in such a way that
the athlete and/or the supervisor can reasonably expect this touch to be sexual or erotic in nature, as will generally be the case with the deliberate touching (or causing to be touched) of
    genitals, buttocks, and breasts.
  • The supervisor refrains from sexually suggestive verbal intimacies.
  • During training (camps), competitions, and travel, the supervisor will treat the athlete and the space
in which the athlete is located, such as the changing room or the hotel room,
    with reserve and respect.
  • The supervisor has the duty to protect the athlete against harm
and (abuse of) power resulting from sexual harassment. Where it is known or established who represents the interests of the (young) athlete, the supervisor is obliged to cooperate with these persons or organizations so that they can perform their work properly.
  • The supervisor shall not provide the athlete with any (im)material compensation with the apparent intention of demanding reciprocal services. Nor shall the supervisor accept any financial reward or gifts from the athlete that are disproportionate to the customary or agreed remuneration.
  • The supervisor shall actively ensure that these rules are observed by everyone involved with the athlete. If he observes behavior that is not in accordance with these rules, he shall address the person concerned.
  • In those cases where the rules of conduct do not (directly) provide guidance, it is within the supervisor's responsibility to act in the spirit thereof. For more information, please visit the NOC-NSF website via the links below
